May Showcase: Honoring Motherhood

Hi, Moms and Happy May!

The month of May holds a very special place in my heart. For as long as I can remember, May has been filled with positive traditions and time outside enjoying nature. As the third month in spring, May a time when the blooms are in full force, symbolic of renewal and hope, which is so needed after a long winter.

May is also the month we celebrate and honor mothers. And while some may downplay Mother’s Day as a commercial ploy to spend money, I see the day as an opportunity to focus on traditions, express gratitude, spend time with family, and a little solo time to recharge.

A few of my traditions during the month of May include Mother’s Day Tea Celebrations, which started when I was in elementary school honoring my mother. And this lovely tradition has continued for many years at my daughter’s schools hosting Mother’s Day Tea celebrations.

May is a month of strong, loving, powerful women. In Catholicism, May is a month to honor Holy Mother Mary, as it is a common practice to celebrate Mother Mary the entire month through praying the rosary and other devotions. And the month of May is thought to have been named for the Greek goddess Maia, who was identified with the Roman goddess of fertility, Bona Dea, whose festival was held in May.

A few weeks ago, en route to visit family out-of-state, I was daydreaming, reflecting on life, the way that happens when you’re out of the day-to-day routine when traveling, and I had a thought to spend the entire month of May honoring motherhood through writing daily posts all related to mothering. I’ve mapped out the topics and I am excited to share with you a new post each day. Some of the posts are practical, others are reflective, and I hope many will be inspiring. My goal is to create a helpful, lovely and inspiring series of posts honoring the cherished role of motherhood. I look forward to sharing with you a post each day during this month!
